The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6001122 is a taper shank drill bit engineered for general-purpose metal drilling in machine shop and industrial environments. It measures 0.9063 inches (29/32 inch) in diameter with a 3MT (Morse Taper No. 3) shank, making it suitable for drill presses and lathes equipped with matching taper sleeves or spindles. Manufactured from high speed steel with an oxide finish, it features a standard 118-degree point angle and a right-hand spiral flute for efficient chip evacuation. Overall length is 10.75 inches with a flute length of 6.125 inches, providing a 4xD flute-to-diameter ratio suited to deep-hole applications.
This bit is designed for use in production machining, maintenance, and repair operations where a Morse Taper No. 3 shank is the required interface. Typical applications include drilling through mild steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous materials on vertical drill presses, radial arm drills, or milling machines with the appropriate taper adapter. The Series 209 designation places it in a standard general-purpose line built to ANSI specifications. Installation and operation are performed by qualified machinists or tool-and-die tradespeople in shop settings.
Designed as a general-purpose replacement or production taper shank drill bit for machine spindles or drill press quills accepting a Morse Taper No. 3 (3MT) shank interface.
Installation and removal of Morse Taper shank tooling should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered off and the spindle fully stopped. A proper drift key and soft mallet are typically used to seat and eject the taper; never use an impact tool directly on the shank. Inspect the spindle bore and shank taper for burrs or debris before seating to ensure full contact and prevent runout. Follow applicable machine-specific safety lockout and tagout procedures before changing tooling.
