The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6001082 is a taper shank drill bit engineered for heavy-duty drilling in metal, ferrous alloys, and similar materials. Built from high speed steel with an oxide finish, this bit handles the thermal and mechanical stress of production drilling environments. The 3MT (Morse Taper 3) shank seats securely in compatible drill press spindles, lathes, and milling machines. At 1.0236 inches (26.00 mm) in diameter and 11.25 inches overall length, it is sized for large-bore work where rigidity and chip evacuation matter. A 118-degree standard point with web thinning reduces thrust and improves hole entry accuracy. Intended for installation and use by machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and industrial maintenance professionals.
This bit is suited for general-purpose drilling in machine shop, maintenance, and fabrication settings. The Series 5ATS designation and DIN 345 standard compliance indicate it meets recognized dimensional and performance benchmarks for taper shank tooling. The 6.5-inch spiral flute length supports efficient chip removal during deep-hole drilling passes. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional drill press and lathe spindle rotation. Coolant-through capability is not included in this configuration, so flood or external coolant delivery should be used when drilling high-strength materials at aggressive feeds.
Designed for use in drill presses, lathes, and milling machines equipped with a Number 3 Morse Taper (3MT) spindle or sleeve. Verify spindle taper size before installation; a 3MT-to-2MT or 3MT-to-4MT reducing or extending sleeve may be required for non-matching spindles.
Power down and lock out the machine before inserting or removing the taper shank. Clean the spindle socket and the bit taper thoroughly — any chips or oil film will prevent full seating and can cause runout or bit ejection under load. Drive the taper firmly into the socket using a wooden mallet or drift, then verify the bit is fully seated before resuming power. Use a drift key and knockout slot to remove the bit; never attempt to twist or pry the shank free by hand.
