The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6001068 is a taper shank drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal, wood, and similar materials. It features a 9/64 inch (0.1406 inch decimal) cutting diameter with a No. 1 Morse Taper (1MT) shank for secure seating in compatible drill presses, lathes, and milling machines. Manufactured from high speed steel with an oxide finish, the bit runs a 118-degree standard point with web thinning to reduce thrust and improve centering on entry. Overall length is 5.375 inches. Licensed tradespeople and machinists working in general fabrication or maintenance environments are the primary installers of this bit.
This bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling applications where a rigid taper shank connection is required. The 1MT shank fits standard Morse Taper sockets on drill presses, engine lathes, and vertical mills. With a flute length of 2.125 inches and a right-hand spiral flute, it handles through-hole and blind-hole work at a 4xD flute-to-diameter ratio. No coolant-through capability is present, making it appropriate for lower-speed, hand-fed setups or light-duty production runs where flood or mist coolant is not required.
Designed as a general-purpose replacement or stock drill bit compatible with any machine spindle or drill chuck accepting a No. 1 Morse Taper (1MT) shank. Typical applications include drill presses, engine lathes, and vertical milling machines equipped with 1MT sockets or adapter sleeves.
Installation requires a clean, burr-free 1MT socket; wipe both the shank and socket bore before seating to ensure full taper contact. De-energize and lock out the machine before inserting or removing the bit. A soft mallet or drift punch through the spindle slot is the standard method for ejecting a Morse Taper shank. Always verify spindle speed against recommended surface footage for the material and bit diameter before cutting.
