The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6001049 is a taper shank drill bit engineered for metal drilling in general-purpose machining applications. It measures 0.8268 inches (21.00 mm) in diameter with a No. 2 Morse Taper (2MT) shank for secure seating in compatible drill press quills, lathe tailstocks, and milling machine spindles. The bit is manufactured from high speed steel (HSS) with an oxide finish that provides basic lubricity and corrosion resistance. Overall length is 9.5625 inches with a flute length of 5.7188 inches. The 118-degree standard point angle with web thinning makes it well-suited for drilling carbon steel, alloy steel, and similar ferrous materials. Machinists, toolroom technicians, and maintenance trades use this bit for production and repair drilling operations.
This drill bit is appropriate for use in stationary drilling equipment including drill presses, lathes, and machining centers fitted with a No. 2 Morse Taper socket. The right-hand spiral flute and standard point geometry make it a dependable general-purpose option for ferrous metals. It conforms to DIN 345 standards, which govern taper shank twist drill dimensions and tolerances. The 4xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports chip evacuation in moderate-depth holes without coolant-through capability, so external flood or mist cooling is recommended for extended cuts in tougher alloys.
Designed for use in drill presses, lathes, and machining centers equipped with a No. 2 Morse Taper (2MT) socket. Confirm taper size designation of the machine spindle or adapter before installation.
Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with taper shank tooling. Clean both the taper shank and the machine socket with a lint-free cloth before seating to ensure full metal-to-metal contact and prevent slippage under load. Never use a hammer directly on the drill body to seat or remove the shank — use a proper drift punch in the spindle slot for removal. Ensure the machine is fully powered down and locked out before changing tooling per applicable OSHA lockout/tagout procedures.
