Product Description

The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000717 is a 4.50 mm cobalt jobber-length drill bit engineered for general-purpose drilling in steel and other ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The 135-degree split-point geometry reduces walking at entry and requires less thrust than a conventional 118-degree point. The oxide and straw coating provides surface hardness and mild lubricity during cutting. With an overall length of 3-5/32 inches and a flute length of 1-27/32 inches, this bit fits standard drill chucks and CNC machining centers equally well. It is suited for machinists, maintenance technicians, pipefitters, and fabricators working with steel plate, structural sections, and similar materials.

This drill bit is designed for drilling steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and composite materials in production and maintenance environments. The 2ACO series follows DIN 338 and ANSI standards, making it a direct fit for metric jobber-length tooling applications. Typical use cases include through-hole and blind-hole drilling in structural steel, mechanical components, and sheet metal up to the maximum drilling depth of 1.8504 inches. The straight cylindrical shank accepts standard three-jaw chucks and collet-style toolholders without modification.

Key Features

  • Cobalt construction provides heat resistance and extended tool life in hard steel applications
  • 135-degree split point reduces thrust requirement and minimizes drill walk on entry
  • Oxide and straw coating adds surface hardness and mild lubricity
  • Web-thinned, tapered web improves chip clearance and cutting efficiency
  • DIN 338 and ANSI compliant for dimensional interchangeability with metric jobber-length tooling
  • Right-hand spiral flute with 10xD flute-to-diameter ratio for efficient chip evacuation

Compatibility

Designed as an OEM-style jobber-length drill bit conforming to DIN 338 and ANSI standards, compatible with any standard three-jaw chuck or collet toolholder accepting a 4.50 mm straight cylindrical shank. Suitable for workpiece material categories P, M, K, N, and S as designated in the specifications.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by machinists, maintenance technicians, or fabricators using a drill press, hand drill, or CNC machining center. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet before use and verify zero runout where precision holes are required. Always power down and lock out the machine before changing bits. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for extended drilling cycles in hard steel to preserve cutting edge life; this bit does not support internal coolant-through delivery.
