The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000708 is a cobalt-grade jobber-length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in steel and other demanding workpiece materials. Built to DIN 338 and ANSI standards, this bit features a 135-degree split point with web thinning to reduce walking on entry and lower thrust requirements at the start of the cut. The straw oxide finish provides mild lubricity and heat resistance during drilling. At 4.20 mm in diameter with a straight cylindrical shank of equal diameter, it fits standard drill chucks without adapters. This is a heavy-duty classification bit suited for shop technicians, machinists, and field tradespeople working with ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
The 6000708 is intended for drilling in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and non-ferrous alloys, covering material codes P, M, K, N, and S. Its jobber-length configuration — an overall length of 2-61/64 inches with a 1-11/16 inch flute length — makes it a practical all-around choice for benchtop drill presses, hand drills, and CNC applications where a standard reach is sufficient. The 2-flute regular spiral design provides good chip evacuation in a wide range of materials. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber drill bit compatible with standard drill chucks accepting a 4.20 mm straight shank. Suitable for use in hand drills, drill presses, and CNC spindles where a DIN 338 jobber-length cobalt bit is specified.
A licensed machinist or qualified tradesperson should secure the bit firmly in the chuck and verify runout before drilling. Secure the workpiece with a vise or clamps — never hold by hand during drilling. Apply cutting fluid appropriate to the workpiece material to extend bit life and reduce heat buildup. Inspect the cutting edges for wear before each use; a chipped or dull edge can cause work hardening in steel and premature bit failure.
