The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000698 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys. It features a 135-degree split point for fast penetration and reduced walking on entry, eliminating the need for a center punch in most applications. The 3.80 mm (0.1496 inch) diameter straight shank fits standard drill chucks without modification. An oxide and straw finish provides basic lubricity and corrosion resistance during service. Licensed tradespeople and machinists working in metal fabrication, mechanical contracting, and industrial maintenance will find this bit suited to everyday hole-making tasks in ferrous and non-ferrous stock.
This drill bit is built for production and maintenance drilling in steel and similar workpiece materials. The cobalt construction handles harder alloys and elevated cutting temperatures better than standard high-speed steel. With a flute length of 1.6875 inches and an overall length of 2.9531 inches (2-61/64 inches), it fits benchtop drill presses, magnetic base drills, and portable hand drills equally well. The DIN 338 specification and ANSI standards compliance make it a recognized drop-in for metric hole-size requirements in industrial and mechanical service settings.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber drill for use in steel and compatible workpiece materials including cast iron and non-ferrous metals, as indicated by primary workpiece material codes P, M, K, N, and S per DIN classification.
Install this bit in a standard drill chuck, ensuring the shank is seated fully and the chuck key is tightened at all three positions before operation. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling to prevent movement and bit deflection. Use appropriate cutting fluid when drilling steel to extend bit life and improve hole finish. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace the bit if chipping or excessive wear is observed.
