The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000581 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit engineered for heavy-duty drilling in steel and other demanding workpiece materials. The bit measures 9.20 mm (0.3622 inches) in diameter with an overall length of 4-59/64 inches (4.9219 inches) and a flute length of 3-3/16 inches (3.1875 inches). The 135-degree split-point geometry reduces walking at startup and requires less feed force compared to a standard 118-degree point. A straw oxide finish provides light lubricity and corrosion resistance during use. The straight cylindrical shank and two-flute regular spiral design make this bit compatible with standard drill chucks across a wide range of drilling equipment.
This bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling in ferrous metals, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, and high-temperature alloys, consistent with its P, M, K, N, and S workpiece material classifications. The cobalt high-speed steel construction handles the elevated heat generated when drilling harder steels and work-hardening materials. Machinists, tool and die workers, millwrights, and general maintenance technicians typically reach for this size when drilling clearance or tap-drill holes in the 9 mm to 10 mm range. The web-thinned tip and tapered web configuration help maintain center stability through the full flute depth of up to 3.189 inches.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks accepting a 9.20 mm (0.3622-inch) straight shank. Primary workpiece material classifications P, M, K, N, and S indicate suitability for carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys. Conforms to DIN 338 and ANSI specifications.
Install and remove this bit only with the drill press, handheld drill, or machine tool powered off and fully stopped. Secure the straight shank firmly in a keyed or keyless chuck, ensuring the bit is centered and seated to the full shank depth before tightening. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for steel and stainless steel applications to extend tool life and maintain hole quality. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace if the point geometry is compromised.
