The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000459 is a taper length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in a wide range of metals and materials. Built from high speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, this bit features a 0.2770 inch (Letter J) diameter, a 118-degree standard point angle, and a right-hand spiral flute configuration. The taper length body provides extra reach compared to jobber-length bits, making it well suited for applications where depth clearance is required. Web thinning reduces thrust and improves chip evacuation at the cutting tip. This bit belongs to the Series R55 line and conforms to ANSI standards.
This drill bit is used in metalworking, fabrication, and maintenance applications across industrial and commercial settings. The straight shank fits standard drill chucks without additional adapters. Its general-purpose classification covers a broad spectrum of materials including carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, aluminum, brass, bronze, cast iron, copper, nickel alloys, magnesium alloys, and reinforced plastics. Machinists, pipefitters, ironworkers, and maintenance technicians commonly reach for this bit when drilling through structural metal or mechanical components requiring a deeper hole than a standard-length bit allows.
Designed as a general-purpose taper length drill bit compatible with alloy steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, cermet, copper, graphite, hardened steel, high strength bronze, magnesium, magnesium alloy, malleable iron, nickel, nickel alloy, reinforced plastic materials, and stainless steel.
Install in a standard drill press, hand drill, or milling machine chuck rated for a 0.2770 inch straight shank. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and confirm chuck key is removed prior to starting. Apply appropriate cutting fluid when drilling hard metals such as stainless steel or hardened alloys to extend tool life and reduce heat buildup. Ensure workpiece is clamped or fixtured securely to prevent movement during drilling.
