The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000442 is a reduced shank cobalt drill bit designed for demanding metal drilling applications. It features a 51/64 inch (0.7969 inch) cutting diameter paired with a 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank, allowing it to run in standard 1/2 inch chucks without requiring a larger chuck capacity. The 118-degree split point promotes accurate self-centering and reduces walking on entry. At 6 inches overall length with a 3 inch flute length, this bit handles moderate-depth through-holes in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Licensed machinists, maintenance technicians, and fabricators working in production or field environments rely on cobalt construction for heat resistance and edge retention.
This drill bit is suited for drilling ferrous metals, aluminum, copper, nickel, titanium, magnesium, and synthetic materials. The reduced shank design extends its usability to standard 1/2 inch drill press chucks and hand drill chucks when the full bit diameter would otherwise require a larger chuck. It is a practical choice for HVAC fabricators, pipefitters, and industrial maintenance technicians who regularly drill through structural steel, pipe flanges, angle iron, and sheet metal. The Series R56CO designation places it within Precision Twist Drill's cobalt reduced shank line, built to ANSI standards.
Designed for use in any 1/2 inch keyed or keyless chuck on drill presses, magnetic drills, and hand drills. Primary workpiece materials include ferrous metals. Secondary compatible materials include aluminum, cermet, copper, magnesium, nickel, synthetic materials, and titanium.
Secure the 1/2 inch shank firmly in the chuck before operation and verify runout before drilling into finished workpieces. Use an appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling ferrous metals and harder alloys to extend bit life, even though the bit is rated for dry cutting. Follow applicable ANSI and shop safety standards for workpiece clamping and personal protective equipment. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace the bit if chipping or heat discoloration is observed at the tip.
