The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000439 is a reduced shank cobalt drill bit designed for drilling into ferrous metals and a wide range of secondary materials. It features a 5/8-inch cutting diameter paired with a 1/2-inch straight-cylindrical shank, allowing it to fit standard 1/2-inch chucks even at larger cutting diameters. The 118-degree split point promotes self-centering and reduces walking on entry, which matters in production and maintenance drilling environments. With a 6-inch overall length and 3-inch flute length, it handles moderate-depth holes without excessive deflection. The bright, uncoated finish keeps costs down for shops running cobalt tooling on ferrous stock. Machinists, millwrights, pipefitters, and HVAC fabricators reaching for a heavier-duty drill bit on hard materials will find this a reliable option.
The 6000439 is suited for drilling ferrous metals as its primary application, with additional rated workpiece materials including aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, cermet, and synthetic materials. The reduced shank design makes it practical for standard 1/2-inch drill presses, magnetic drills, and hand drills used in fabrication shops, mechanical rooms, and field installation work. The right-hand spiral flute configuration is standard for conventional drilling setups. This bit works without coolant supply, making it usable in field conditions where coolant-through tooling is not available.
Rated for ferrous metals as the primary workpiece material. Secondary compatible materials include aluminum, cermet, copper, magnesium, nickel, synthetic materials, and titanium. Designed for use in any 1/2-inch chuck capacity drill press, magnetic drill, or hand drill running right-hand rotation.
Always secure the workpiece fully before drilling and confirm the drill press or driver is set to right-hand rotation before engaging the bit. De-energize and lock out any powered equipment during bit changes per standard LOTO procedures. Cobalt bits can tolerate higher heat than HSS but will still degrade if run at excessive speed without adequate feed pressure — consult published speeds and feeds for the specific material being drilled. Inspect the split point for chipping before each use, especially when drilling hardened or abrasive materials.
