The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000377 is a reduced shank cobalt drill bit engineered for drilling through ferrous metals and a wide range of secondary materials. The 23/32 inch cutting diameter pairs with a 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank, allowing use in standard 1/2 inch chuck equipment without a larger chuck capacity. The 118-degree split point reduces walking and lowers thrust requirements at entry. Built from cobalt high-speed steel, the bit retains hardness at elevated temperatures, making it a reliable choice for production drilling, fabrication shops, and maintenance trades where heat buildup is a concern.
This drill bit is suited for drilling ferrous metals including steel and cast iron, as well as secondary materials such as aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, and synthetic materials. The reduced shank design is a common solution when the required hole diameter exceeds the capacity of available chucks or spindles. It fits standard drill presses, CNC machines, and heavy-duty hand drills equipped with a 1/2 inch chuck. Typical applications include structural fabrication, mechanical assembly, and industrial maintenance work requiring consistent, accurate hole placement.
Compatible with ferrous metals, aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, cermet, and synthetic workpiece materials. Designed as an OEM-style reduced shank drill bit for use in any 1/2 inch chuck drill press, machining center, or heavy-duty hand drill where a full-size 23/32 inch chuck is not available.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist, tool and die technician, or experienced tradesperson familiar with rotating cutting tools. Secure the shank fully in a properly rated 1/2 inch chuck before operation and confirm the chuck is tightened with the appropriate key before engaging the spindle. Always wear appropriate eye protection and secure the workpiece firmly before drilling. Do not exceed the rated drilling depth of 3 inches for this bit length.
