The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000338 is a taper length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling across a wide range of materials. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright/uncoated finish, it measures 0.3970 inches in diameter and 7 inches in overall length. The standard 118-degree point angle and right-hand spiral flute geometry deliver clean, accurate entry in both hand-fed and machine-fed applications. Web-thinned construction reduces thrust and improves chip evacuation. This bit is suited for use in drill presses, lathes, and milling machines operated by machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance technicians.
The 6000338 is a Series R55 taper length bit, offering a longer flute and overall length compared to jobber-length equivalents. That extended reach makes it well suited for through-hole drilling in thicker workpieces or where standard-length bits fall short. The straight shank fits conventional drill chucks without adapters. It carries an ANSI standard designation and is positioned as a general-purpose tool for production and maintenance environments where a broad range of base and exotic materials are encountered.
Designed as a general-purpose taper length drill bit compatible with materials including alloy steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, copper, graphite, hardened steel, high strength bronze, magnesium, magnesium alloy, malleable iron, nickel, nickel alloy, reinforced plastic materials, and stainless steel.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with rotary cutting tools. Secure the straight shank firmly in a properly sized drill chuck before operation, and verify that chuck runout is within acceptable tolerance to avoid premature bit wear. Always power down and lock out the machine before changing bits. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve hole finish.
