The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000319 is a taper length, straight-shank drill bit designed for general-purpose metal drilling across a wide range of materials. Manufactured from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright/uncoated finish, this bit measures 0.3390 inches in diameter — equivalent to letter size R — with a 118-degree standard point angle and a web-thinned, tapered web configuration. The right-hand spiral flute design provides efficient chip evacuation during through-hole and deep-hole drilling operations. With an overall length of 6.5 inches and a flute length of 4.125 inches, this Series R55 bit offers extended reach compared to jobber-length equivalents, making it well suited for applications where standard-length bits fall short.
This drill bit is intended for use in a broad range of industrial, maintenance, and fabrication settings. The 6xD flute-to-diameter ratio provides increased reach for drilling in deeper stock or in confined setups where a longer bit is required. It is compatible with standard drill chucks accepting a 0.3390-inch straight shank and is appropriate for use in drill presses, hand drills, and CNC drilling setups. The Series R55 taper length format is commonly specified in machine shops, fabrication facilities, and MRO environments where extended-reach drilling is a routine requirement.
Designed for drilling alloy steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, cermet, copper, graphite, hardened steel, high strength bronze, magnesium, magnesium alloy, malleable iron, nickel, nickel alloy, reinforced plastic materials, and stainless steel. Fits any standard drill chuck accepting a 0.3390-inch straight shank.
This drill bit is installed and operated by machinists, tool-and-die technicians, maintenance mechanics, and fabricators. Secure the straight shank firmly in a properly sized drill chuck before operation, and verify chuck runout is within acceptable limits to avoid premature wear. Always match spindle speed to the workpiece material and bit diameter per standard cutting speed tables, and use appropriate cutting fluid when drilling ferrous or hard materials. Inspect the cutting edges before use and resharpen or replace if chipping or dulling is present.
