The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000301 is a taper length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling across a wide range of materials. Built from high speed steel with a bright/uncoated finish, it features a 0.2900 inch diameter and a standard 118-degree split point angle. The 4 inch spiral flute length and 6-3/8 inch overall length give it extended reach compared to jobber-length bits, making it well suited for deeper hole applications. The straight shank and right-hand cut are standard configurations compatible with most drill chucks. Web thinning reduces thrust and improves chip evacuation at the point. This bit is part of the Series R55 line and carries an ANSI standard designation.
This drill bit fits production and maintenance applications where standard jobber length is insufficient. The extended flute-to-diameter ratio of 6xD allows drilling in workpieces or setups that require additional reach without stepping up to a full aircraft extension bit. It performs across ferrous and non-ferrous metals as well as plastics and composite materials, making it a practical general-purpose tool for machine shops, maintenance technicians, fabricators, and trade professionals who need reliable hole quality in varied stock.
Rated for use in alloy steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, cermet, copper, graphite, hardened steel, high strength bronze, magnesium, magnesium alloy, malleable iron, nickel, nickel alloy, reinforced plastic materials, and stainless steel. Straight shank fits standard three-jaw drill chucks and collet systems accepting 0.2900 inch shank diameters.
Secure the straight shank firmly in a properly sized drill chuck or collet before operation. Verify spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for the workpiece material and bit diameter before beginning the cut. Use cutting fluid or coolant when drilling ferrous metals or stainless steel to extend tool life and maintain hole quality. Inspect the cutting edges for wear before each use and replace the bit if the point shows chipping or dulling that affects cut performance.
