The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000278 is a high-speed steel extra length drill bit designed for deep-hole drilling applications in metalworking and fabrication environments. With a 1/8 inch diameter and an 8 inch overall length, this bit provides extended reach that standard-length drills cannot achieve. The 118-degree standard point angle and web-thinned tip promote accurate starting and reduce walking on entry. The bright uncoated finish is suited for general-purpose use across a wide range of workpiece materials. Two spiral flutes with a 6 inch flute length provide efficient chip evacuation during drilling operations.
This Series 860 drill bit is built for professional machinists, tool and die technicians, HVAC fabricators, and maintenance trades that require extended reach in tight or deep bore applications. Its right-hand cutting spiral and straight cylindrical shank allow it to seat directly in standard drill chucks and collets without adapters. The 12xD flute-to-diameter ratio makes this bit well suited for drilling through thick stock, deep bosses, or stacked material where a standard jobber-length drill would bottom out before completing the hole.
Rated for primary use in aluminum, magnesium, copper, nickel, synthetic, and titanium workpiece materials. Also suitable as a secondary application bit in stainless steel, hardened steel, malleable iron, nickel alloys, high-strength bronze, and reinforced plastic materials as noted in the manufacturer specifications.
This bit is installed by machinists and maintenance technicians using standard drill presses, CNC drilling equipment, or portable hand drills with compatible chucks. Secure the straight shank fully in the chuck before operation to prevent runout. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the target workpiece material to extend tool life, particularly when drilling ferrous metals. Verify spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for the workpiece material and bit diameter before beginning the cut.
