The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000258 is a taper length, straight-shank drill bit designed for general-purpose metal drilling across a wide range of materials. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright/uncoated finish, it features a 118-degree standard point angle and a web-thinned, tapered web configuration that reduces thrust and improves chip evacuation at entry. The bit measures 37/64 inch (0.5781 inches) in diameter with a spiral flute length of 4.875 inches and an overall length of 8.75 inches. The right-hand cut and regular spiral flute geometry make it a reliable everyday tool for production and maintenance drilling operations performed by machinists, HVAC fabricators, plumbers, and general metalworkers.
This bit is suited for drilling into a broad spectrum of materials in both shop and field environments. Its taper length body — longer than a jobber bit but shorter than a long series — gives added reach for applications where standard jobber length falls short, such as drilling through structural members, thick flanges, or deep fixture setups. It performs well in residential and light commercial metalworking, HVAC sheet metal fabrication, plumbing rough-in, and general maintenance environments where drilling into steel, aluminum, brass, copper, and cast iron is routine.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks accepting straight shanks up to 0.5781 inches in diameter. Compatible with drilling into alloy steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, copper, graphite, hardened steel, high strength bronze, magnesium, magnesium alloy, malleable iron, nickel, nickel alloy, reinforced plastic materials, stainless steel, and cermet as specified by the manufacturer.
Install in a drill press, hand drill, or milling machine with a chuck rated for the shank diameter; secure firmly to prevent slipping under load. Power down and de-energize all equipment before changing bits. Use appropriate cutting fluid for ferrous materials to extend bit life and maintain dimensional accuracy. Operate at the recommended surface footage for the work material — consult standard HSS speed-and-feed tables for the specific alloy being drilled.
