The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000241 is an extra-length, high-speed steel drill bit designed for deep-hole drilling applications where standard-length bits cannot reach. It features a 0.4531-inch diameter, a 12-inch overall length, and a 9-inch spiral flute length, giving technicians and machinists significant depth capacity in a single pass. The 118-degree standard point is web-thinned with a tapered web configuration, reducing the thrust needed to start and maintain a cut. The bright, uncoated finish is suited for general-purpose work on a wide range of workpiece materials. This bit is installed and used by machinists, maintenance technicians, and fabricators in shop and field environments.
This extra-length bit is intended for applications that require drilling through thick stock, deep structural members, or stacked materials where flute length and overall reach are the limiting factors. Primary workpiece materials include aluminum, magnesium, copper, nickel, synthetic, and titanium. Secondary workpiece materials include stainless steel, steel, hardened steel, nickel alloy, malleable iron, high-strength bronze, magnesium alloy, and reinforced plastic. The Series 1290 designation places this bit in PRECISION TWIST DRILL general-purpose product line, conforming to ANSI standards. Right-hand cutting direction is standard.
Designed as a general-purpose extra-length drill bit compatible with standard drill chucks and drill presses that accept a 0.4531-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Suitable for use on aluminum, magnesium, copper, nickel, synthetic, titanium, stainless steel, steel, hardened steel, nickel alloy, malleable iron, high-strength bronze, magnesium alloy, and reinforced plastic materials per manufacturer specification.
Secure the straight shank firmly in a keyed or keyless chuck rated for the bit diameter before operation. Power down and lock out any drilling equipment before changing bits or making chuck adjustments. Extra-length bits are more susceptible to deflection than standard-length bits — use the lowest practical speed and apply steady, controlled feed pressure to maintain accuracy and reduce lateral load. Ensure the workpiece is clamped securely to prevent movement during the cut.
