The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000226 is a taper length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling across a wide range of metals and materials. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright/uncoated finish, it measures 0.0400 inches in diameter (Wire Size 60) with a standard 118-degree split point angle. The spiral flute geometry is paired with a web-thinned, tapered web configuration to reduce thrust and improve chip evacuation. Overall length is 2.25 inches with a 1.125-inch flute length, giving a 6xD flute-to-diameter ratio. This bit is sold individually and is part of the Series R52 line. Machinists, pipefitters, and general fabricators are the primary users.
This drill bit is suited for both production and maintenance drilling in shop and field environments. It handles a broad spectrum of workpiece materials including alloy steel, carbon steel, stainless steel, cast iron, malleable iron, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, high strength bronze, copper, magnesium, magnesium alloy, nickel, nickel alloy, reinforced plastics, graphite, cermet, and hardened steel. The straight shank fits standard drill chucks without adapters, making it compatible with benchtop drill presses, hand drills, and CNC drilling setups. Right-hand cut only.
Designed as a general-purpose taper length drill bit compatible with any standard drill chuck accepting a 0.0400-inch straight shank, including drill presses, hand drills, and CNC equipment. Suitable for the full material list noted in the application section above.
Secure the straight shank firmly in the drill chuck before operation and verify concentricity to avoid bit deflection at this small diameter. Power down and lock out the drilling machine before changing bits. At 0.0400 inches diameter, feed pressure must be light and controlled to prevent bit breakage — use a drill press or guided fixture when possible rather than a freehand hand drill. No coolant-through capability; apply cutting fluid externally when drilling hardened or stainless materials.
