The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000222 is a 90-degree spotting drill designed to create precise starter holes for follow-up drilling operations. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it delivers extended tool life and reduced friction in general-purpose metal cutting applications. The 0.5-inch cutting diameter and 6-inch overall length make it well suited for production and job-shop environments where consistent hole location and clean entry points are required. Right-hand cutting geometry and a straight cylindrical shank ensure compatibility with standard drill chucks and CNC toolholders. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die makers, and industrial maintenance technicians are the primary users of this tool.
This spotting drill is appropriate for use on machining centers, knee mills, and drill presses handling ferrous and non-ferrous metals in both light manufacturing and maintenance-repair operations. The SPRG-90 series is built for general-purpose spotting duty where accurate hole positioning before full drilling or reaming is critical. The 1.375-inch flute length provides adequate chip clearance for the intended spotting depth without excessive tool overhang.
Designed as a general-purpose spotting drill for use in standard drill chucks and straight-shank collet systems accepting a 0.5-inch shank diameter, compatible with machining centers, CNC mills, knee mills, and bench drill presses.
Installation is performed by a machinist or tool operator. Secure the straight cylindrical shank firmly in a drill chuck or collet holder rated for the spindle speed used. Confirm that the workpiece is clamped or fixtured before engaging the spindle. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material to extend tool life and maintain dimensional accuracy. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or TiN coating breakdown before each use.
