The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000197 is a taper length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling across a wide range of materials. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, it measures 0.0635 inches in diameter — corresponding to wire size number 52 — and features a standard 118-degree point angle with a web-thinned, tapered web configuration for improved cutting performance. The spiral flute design promotes efficient chip evacuation, and the straight shank provides a secure, concentric grip in standard drill chucks. Licensed HVAC, plumbing, and electrical tradespeople as well as machinists and fabricators rely on this type of bit for precision work in tight tolerances.
This taper length drill bit is suited for applications requiring a longer flute and overall reach than a jobber-length bit provides, without the full length of a aircraft extension bit. The 2-inch flute length and 3-3/4-inch overall length give added clearance in deep-hole or obstructed drilling scenarios. Material compatibility is broad, covering alloy steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, copper, graphite, hardened steel, high strength bronze, magnesium, magnesium alloy, malleable iron, nickel, nickel alloy, reinforced plastic materials, and stainless steel.
Designed as a general-purpose taper length drill bit compatible with standard straight-shank drill chucks and collets accepting a 0.0635-inch shank diameter. Suitable for use in drill presses, hand drills, and CNC equipment configured for straight-shank tooling.
Install and remove drill bits only when the drill or drill press is fully powered down and the chuck is stationary. Secure the straight shank firmly in the chuck or collet to the full depth of the gripping surface to prevent runout and bit walking. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling hard ferrous metals such as stainless steel or hardened steel to extend tool life. Follow applicable shop safety standards and wear appropriate eye protection during all drilling operations.
