The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000174 is a 1/4 inch diameter extra length drill bit designed for deep-hole drilling applications where standard-length bits cannot reach. Built from high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, it delivers reliable cutting performance across a wide range of materials. The bit features a 118-degree standard point angle, a 12 inch overall length, and a 9 inch spiral flute length, making it well suited for extended reach work in fabrication, maintenance, and mechanical installation tasks. A web-thinned tip reduces entry force and improves centering accuracy. Licensed trades and experienced fabricators are the typical installers.
This bit is engineered for general-purpose drilling in non-ferrous metals, aluminum, magnesium, copper, nickel, and synthetic materials as primary workpiece targets. It also performs in secondary applications involving stainless steel, hardened steel, high-strength bronze, malleable iron, nickel alloys, and reinforced plastics. The 12xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports chip evacuation during deep passes. The straight cylindrical shank accepts standard three-jaw drill chucks without adapters, making this bit compatible with common handheld and bench-mount drilling equipment used across HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general mechanical trades.
Designed as a general-purpose extra length drill bit compatible with standard three-jaw chucks on handheld drills, drill presses, and milling machines accepting a 1/4 inch straight cylindrical shank. Rated for use in aluminum, magnesium, copper, nickel, synthetic, and titanium as primary materials, with secondary suitability for stainless steel, hardened steel, malleable iron, nickel alloys, and reinforced plastics.
Secure the shank fully in the chuck before drilling and verify chuck tightness to prevent slipping during deep passes. Power down the drill completely before changing bits or adjusting chuck position. Use cutting fluid or appropriate lubricant when drilling ferrous metals or stainless steel to reduce heat buildup and extend bit life. Wear appropriate eye protection and secure the workpiece before beginning any drilling operation.
