The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000171 is a reduced shank twist drill bit engineered for general-purpose drilling in ferrous metals, aluminum, copper, titanium, and a range of other materials. The bit measures 41/64 inch (0.6406 inch) in diameter with a 1/2 inch Weldon shank, allowing it to seat securely in standard 1/2 inch chucks and milling-style holders. Ground from high speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, it runs a 118-degree standard point angle and a right-hand spiral flute. Overall length is 6 inches with a 3 inch flute length, giving the bit a 4xD flute-to-diameter ratio. It is sold individually and carries an ANSI standard designation.
The Series R57 reduced shank design is suited for use in drill presses, milling machines, and CNC machining centers where a 1/2 inch shank is required but a larger hole diameter is needed. Typical applications include fabrication shops, maintenance and repair operations, and production environments working with ferrous metals as the primary workpiece material. Secondary materials include aluminum, cermet, copper, magnesium, nickel, synthetic composites, and titanium. The 3-flat Weldon shank prevents rotation under cutting load, making it a reliable choice for higher-torque applications where round-shank bits may slip.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use reduced shank drill bit compatible with 1/2 inch Weldon-style tool holders, drill presses, and milling machine spindles. Suitable for general-purpose drilling in ferrous metal, aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, and synthetic materials per Series R57 specifications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tool-and-die professional. Secure the Weldon shank fully into the tool holder, engaging all three flats against the set screws before operation. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing or seating the bit. Follow applicable ANSI B94 tooling standards and shop safety protocols for drilling operations.
