The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000168 is a taper length, straight-shank drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling across a wide range of materials. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright/uncoated finish, this bit measures 0.1360 inches in diameter (wire size #29) and features a standard 118-degree point angle. The 3-inch spiral flute length provides extended reach compared to jobber-length bits, making it well suited for deeper hole applications where a standard-length bit falls short. Right-hand cutting with a regular spiral and a tapered web configuration, the 6000168 is web-thinned for improved penetration and reduced thrust at the point.
This bit is designed for general-purpose shop and field use in metalworking, maintenance, and fabrication environments. The taper length body offers additional reach without sacrificing rigidity, fitting applications in manual drill presses and hand-held drilling operations. It is appropriate for use in machine shops, industrial maintenance settings, and fabrication facilities where consistent, repeatable hole sizing is required across a variety of base materials.
The Series R52 taper length drill bit is compatible with a broad range of workpiece materials including alloy steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, cermet, copper, graphite, hardened steel, high strength bronze, magnesium, magnesium alloy, malleable iron, nickel, nickel alloy, reinforced plastic materials, and stainless steel. Meets ANSI standards.
This bit is installed by machinists and maintenance technicians using standard drill presses, CNC equipment, or handheld power drills with a compatible chuck. Ensure the workpiece is properly secured before drilling and that the chuck is tightened fully on the straight shank before operation. Apply appropriate cutting fluid when drilling hardened steels or stainless steel to extend tool life and reduce heat buildup. Inspect the cutting edges before use and replace the bit if chipping or excessive wear is present.
