Product Description

The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000147 is a reduced shank twist drill bit designed for boring large-diameter holes in a wide range of materials using standard drill chucks. The bit has a 2 inch cutting diameter with a 3/4 inch straight-cylindrical shank, allowing it to fit in chucks that could not otherwise accept a full 2 inch shank. Built from high speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, it runs a 118-degree standard point angle and right-hand spiral flutes for general-purpose drilling. Overall length is 6 inches with a 3 inch flute length. Machinists, toolmakers, and maintenance technicians working with drill presses and mill-drill setups are the typical installers.

This bit is suited for general-purpose drilling in ferrous metals including steel and cast iron, as well as non-ferrous materials such as aluminum, copper, magnesium, and titanium. It also handles synthetic and nickel-based materials. The 1.5xD flute-to-diameter ratio and regular spiral flute geometry promote controlled chip evacuation at moderate feed and speed rates, making it a practical choice for production and maintenance drilling on drill presses where a full-size shank would exceed the chuck capacity.

Key Features

  • 2 inch cutting diameter with a reduced 3/4 inch straight-cylindrical shank for standard chuck compatibility
  • 118-degree standard point angle for general-purpose entry and centering in ferrous and non-ferrous stock
  • High speed steel construction provides toughness and heat resistance across a broad range of workpiece materials
  • Right-hand cut with regular spiral flutes for efficient chip removal during through-hole and blind-hole drilling
  • Bright uncoated finish — no coating delamination concerns, easy to re-sharpen
  • Series R58 per ANSI standards; 6 inch overall length accommodates most drill press setups

Compatibility

Designed as a general-purpose reduced shank drill bit suitable for use in drill presses, mill-drills, and similar equipment with 3/4 inch or larger chucks. Compatible workpiece materials include ferrous metals, aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel alloys, titanium, cermet, and synthetic materials per supplier specifications.

Installation Notes

Install and remove drill bits only with the machine powered off and the spindle fully stopped. Secure the 3/4 inch shank firmly in the chuck using the appropriate chuck key before operation, and verify runout before beginning a cut. High speed steel bits should be run at appropriate surface footage for the workpiece material — consult published speeds and feeds tables for large-diameter HSS tooling. Re-sharpen on a drill grinder to maintain the 118-degree point geometry and extend service life.
