The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000140 is a high speed steel extra length drill bit designed for through-hole and deep-hole drilling across a range of metallic and synthetic workpiece materials. At 8 inches overall length with a 6-inch spiral flute and a 0.2812-inch diameter, this Series 860 bit provides the reach needed for applications where standard-length bits fall short. The 118-degree standard point angle and web-thinned, tapered web configuration reduce entry force and improve centering at the start of the cut. Right-hand cutting direction, straight-cylindrical shank, and an uncoated HSS finish round out a general-purpose tool built for everyday shop and field use.
This bit is suited for drilling aluminum, magnesium, copper, nickel, titanium, and a range of synthetic materials as primary workpiece materials. Secondary applications include stainless steel, hardened steel, high strength bronze, malleable iron, nickel alloys, magnesium alloys, and reinforced plastics. The 12xD flute-to-diameter ratio makes it a practical choice when depth of cut exceeds what a jobber-length bit can reach, such as drilling through structural members, deep flanges, or stacked material assemblies in fabrication and maintenance work.
Designed as a general-purpose extra length drill bit compatible with standard 3-jaw drill chucks and collet systems that accept a 0.2813-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Rated for use in aluminum, magnesium, copper, nickel, titanium, stainless steel, malleable iron, nickel alloys, and reinforced plastic materials per Series 860 specifications.
Installation of this bit is performed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and fabricators using standard drill presses, milling machines, or hand-held power drills with compatible chuck capacity. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and verify runout before drilling. Always reduce feed rate when breaking through the back side of the workpiece to prevent grabbing. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and maintain hole quality.
