The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000118 is a reduced shank drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal fabrication, maintenance, and industrial applications. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, it measures 1-7/16 inches (1.4375 inches decimal) in cutting diameter with a reduced 3/4-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Overall length is 6 inches with a 3-inch flute length. The 118-degree standard point angle provides consistent starting and penetration on ferrous metals and a wide range of secondary materials. This bit is part of Precision Twist Drill Series R58 and is sized for use in drill presses, milling machines, and large-capacity hand drills or magnetic drills.
This bit is suited for drilling ferrous metals including steel and iron, as well as aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, cermet, and synthetic materials. The reduced shank design allows the 1-7/16-inch cutting diameter to be chucked in a standard 3/4-inch capacity chuck, making it practical for shops and field technicians who need larger hole diameters without a dedicated large-shank spindle. Typical applications include structural fabrication, HVAC equipment mounting, electrical enclosure work, and general industrial maintenance drilling.
Designed for use in drill presses, radial arm drills, milling machines, and magnetic drill motors equipped with a 3/4-inch capacity chuck. Compatible workpiece materials include ferrous metal, aluminum, cermet, copper, magnesium, nickel, synthetic, and titanium per manufacturer specifications.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or trade professionals familiar with large-diameter twist drills. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling and ensure the chuck is fully tightened on the 3/4-inch shank before operation. Reduce feed pressure as the drill breaks through to prevent grab or workpiece shift. No coolant is required per manufacturer specifications, but operator judgment regarding heat management on deep passes is advised.
