The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000114 is a reduced shank drill bit designed for drilling large-diameter holes in ferrous metals and a range of secondary materials. It carries a 1-5/8 inch cutting diameter paired with a 3/4 inch straight-cylindrical shank, making it compatible with standard drill chucks that cannot accept a full 1-5/8 inch shank. Built from high speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, this bit is suited for general-purpose drilling where high heat or abrasive coatings are not required. The 118-degree standard point angle allows for clean entry on flat and curved stock without a center punch in most applications. HVAC fabricators, pipefitters, plumbers, and electricians commonly reach for this size when cutting through structural steel, ductwork flanges, or heavy-gauge sheet goods.
The 6000114 is used in production and service environments where oversized holes are needed in a single pass without step-drilling. The 6 inch overall length provides clearance in moderate-depth setups, while the 3 inch flute length accommodates drilling depths up to 3 inches. The right-hand spiral flute geometry clears chips efficiently on both drill presses and heavy-duty hand drills. Primary workpiece material is ferrous metal. Secondary materials include aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, and synthetic composites.
Designed as a general-purpose reduced shank drill bit for use in ferrous metals, aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, and synthetic materials; fits drill presses and heavy-duty hand drills with a 3/4 inch or larger chuck capacity.
This bit is installed by trade professionals including HVAC fabricators, pipefitters, and electricians using drill presses or heavy-duty corded drills rated for large-diameter bits. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling and verify the chuck is tightened to the reduced shank before starting. Operate at the appropriate low RPM recommended for large-diameter HSS bits to prevent overheating and premature wear. No coolant is required for general use, but intermittent pressure and clearing chips regularly will extend bit life.
