The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000096 is a reduced shank twist drill bit engineered for general-purpose drilling in ferrous metals, aluminum, copper, and a range of other materials. The bit measures 1-3/4 inches in diameter with a 3/4-inch straight-cylindrical shank, allowing it to chuck into standard drill presses and machine spindles that could not otherwise accept a full-sized shank of this bore diameter. The 118-degree standard point angle is a proven geometry for multi-material work. Constructed from high speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, this bit is a workhorse tool suited for machinists, pipefitters, electricians drilling large-diameter clearance holes, and HVAC and plumbing tradespeople boring through structural members and enclosures.
The 6000096 is built for shop and field applications that require large-diameter holes where spindle capacity is limited by shank size. The 3-inch flute length supports a maximum drilling depth of 3 inches, making it appropriate for drilling through stock, plate, structural steel, aluminum extrusions, copper sheet, and similar workpieces. The right-hand spiral flute geometry clears chips efficiently during through-hole operations. This bit fits the Series R58 family from PRECISION TWIST DRILL and meets ANSI standards for reduced shank drill tooling.
Designed as an OEM-style general-purpose reduced shank drill bit suitable for use in drill presses, milling machines, and magnetic-base drills equipped with a 3/4-inch or larger capacity chuck or collet. Compatible primary workpiece material is ferrous metal; secondary workpiece materials include aluminum, cermet, copper, magnesium, nickel, synthetic composites, and titanium.
Secure the 3/4-inch shank fully into the chuck jaws before tightening; confirm concentricity before starting the cut. Power down and lock out the machine before installing or removing the bit. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant as required by the workpiece material, even though this bit ships dry and uncoated. Regrinding should be performed by a qualified tool grinder to maintain the 118-degree point angle and correct lip height balance.
