The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000054 is a reduced shank twist drill bit designed for drilling large-diameter holes where the machine spindle or chuck cannot accept a full 1.5-inch shank. The cutting diameter is 1.5 inches, while the straight-cylindrical shank reduces to 0.75 inches, allowing the bit to seat in standard drill chucks and spindles. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, this bit handles general-purpose drilling in ferrous metals, aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, and synthetic materials. The 118-degree standard point angle is a conventional geometry suited to a wide range of shop and field drilling applications. It is installed and used by machinists, maintenance mechanics, and fabricators.
This drill bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling operations where a 1.5-inch hole is required but a full-size shank is impractical. The Series R58 design targets general-purpose metalworking in both shop and field environments. Primary workpiece material is ferrous metal, with secondary compatibility extending to aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, cermet, and synthetic materials. The 3-inch flute length supports a maximum drilling depth of 3 inches, and the regular spiral flute geometry promotes chip evacuation during through-hole and blind-hole operations. This bit conforms to ANSI standards.

Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance mechanics. Secure the 0.75-inch shank firmly in the chuck or collet before operation and verify concentricity to minimize runout. Power down and de-energize the machine spindle completely before inserting or removing the bit. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material even though the bit itself is rated for dry cutting, as lubrication extends tool life in harder ferrous materials.
