The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000004 is a reduced shank cobalt drill bit designed for drilling into ferrous metals and a range of secondary materials including aluminum, copper, nickel, and titanium. It features a 7/8 inch cutting diameter with a 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank, allowing it to seat in standard 1/2 inch drill chucks without requiring a larger chuck capacity. The 118-degree split point reduces walking at startup and lowers thrust requirements. The bright, uncoated cobalt construction provides heat resistance suitable for harder materials without the need for coatings. Installed by machinists and maintenance trades working with metal fabrication, tooling, and structural drilling applications.
This bit fits production and maintenance drilling applications in metal fabrication shops, industrial facilities, and field service environments. The Series R56CO designation places it in a line of cobalt reduced shank bits engineered for jobs where spindle capacity is limited to 1/2 inch but hole diameter requirements are larger. The 3 inch flute length supports drilling up to 3 inches deep in a single pass, making it practical for structural steel, plate work, and heavy-gauge material. No coolant feed is required, though external coolant application is appropriate for extended use in harder alloys.
Designed for use in standard 1/2 inch drill chucks. Rated for primary use in ferrous metal workpieces and secondary use in aluminum, cermet, copper, magnesium, nickel, synthetic, and titanium materials. Conforms to ANSI standards.
Install into a 1/2 inch keyed or keyless chuck, ensuring the shank is fully seated and the chuck is tightened securely before operation. Power down and de-energize the drill press or hand drill before changing bits. Use appropriate cutting fluid or external coolant when drilling harder alloys for extended run times. Eye protection and proper workpiece fixturing are required per standard shop safety practice.
