The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999989 is a reduced shank drill bit engineered for general-purpose drilling in ferrous metals, aluminum, copper, and other common workpiece materials. The bit measures 37/64 inch (0.5781 inch) in diameter with a 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical reduced shank, allowing it to fit standard 1/2 inch drill chucks even though the cutting diameter is larger. Overall length is 6 inches with a 3 inch flute length, giving adequate reach for typical through-hole and blind-hole applications. The 118-degree standard point angle and bright uncoated high speed steel construction make this a reliable all-around choice for metalworking trades and maintenance professionals.
This drill bit suits residential and light commercial maintenance, fabrication shops, plumbing rough-in, HVAC equipment installation, and electrical work where drilling into steel, aluminum, copper, or similar materials is required. The right-hand spiral flute design evacuates chips efficiently during standard rotary drilling operations. Series R56 designates this as part of a consistent product line with controlled geometry and tolerances. No coolant-through feature is present, so conventional cutting fluid applied externally is recommended when drilling harder ferrous materials at sustained depths.
Designed for use in standard 1/2 inch keyed or keyless drill chucks on corded drills, drill presses, and magnetic base drills. Suitable for drilling ferrous metals, aluminum, cermet, copper, magnesium, nickel, synthetic materials, and titanium under general-purpose conditions.
Installation is performed by licensed tradespeople or qualified maintenance personnel using a drill press or hand-held power drill. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling to prevent movement. Apply cutting fluid or cutting oil when drilling harder ferrous metals to extend bit life and maintain hole quality. Inspect the cutting edges before use; a dull or chipped point should be resharpened or the bit replaced before continuing work.
