The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999983 is a reduced shank twist drill bit manufactured from high speed steel (HSS) and designed for general-purpose drilling in metalworking and fabrication applications. The bit features a 33/64 inch cutting diameter with a reduced 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank, allowing it to chuck into standard 1/2 inch drill chucks regardless of the larger cutting diameter. The 118-degree standard point angle is the conventional geometry for drilling ferrous metals and a broad range of secondary materials. Cutting direction is right-hand. The bright, uncoated finish is the standard specification for this Series R56 bit.
This bit is suited for drilling ferrous metals as the primary workpiece material. Secondary compatible materials include aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, synthetic composites, and cermet. The reduced shank design makes it a practical choice when a drill press, hand drill, or milling machine is equipped with a 1/2 inch chuck but the job requires a hole larger than 1/2 inch. Typical install scenarios include mechanical contractors, pipefitters, electricians, and general fabricators drilling clearance or pilot holes in structural steel, plate, tubing, and sheet stock.
Designed as a general-purpose reduced shank drill bit compatible with any 1/2 inch drill chuck on drill presses, hand drills, or milling machines; intended for use in ferrous metal, aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, synthetic, and cermet workpiece materials.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists, mechanics, or trade professionals familiar with rotating cutting tools. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling and verify the chuck is properly tightened on the 1/2 inch shank before operation. Always wear appropriate eye protection and follow applicable shop safety protocols when operating drill presses or hand-held drilling equipment. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or damage before each use and replace if the point is chipped or the flutes are compromised.
