The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999973 is a reduced shank twist drill bit ground from high speed steel for general-purpose drilling across a wide range of materials. The bit measures 29/32 inch (0.9062 inch decimal) in cutting diameter with a 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank, allowing it to seat in standard 1/2 inch drill chucks without requiring a larger chuck capacity. Overall length is 6 inches with a 3 inch flute length and a 118-degree standard drill point. The bright, uncoated finish suits applications where a coating is unnecessary or where regrinding in the field is anticipated. This bit is installed by machinists, maintenance trades, and fabricators working with ferrous metals and non-ferrous materials.
The 5999973 is designed for general-purpose drilling in ferrous metals as its primary workpiece material. It also performs in aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, synthetic materials, and cermet. The reduced shank design makes a 29/32 inch diameter bit accessible through a 1/2 inch chuck, which expands usability on standard drill presses and hand drills without a large-capacity chuck. Series R56 follows ANSI standards. Right-hand cut with a regular spiral flute pattern suits conventional drilling setups. No coolant-through capability is present; external coolant or cutting fluid may be applied at the operator's discretion.
Designed as an OEM-style general-purpose reduced shank drill bit compatible with any 1/2 inch keyed or keyless drill chuck on standard drill presses, benchtop drills, and hand drills. Suitable for drilling ferrous metals, aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, synthetic materials, and cermet.
Install the 1/2 inch shank fully and squarely into the chuck jaws before tightening to ensure concentricity and prevent runout. Secure the workpiece before drilling to prevent rotation or movement. Apply cutting fluid or a suitable coolant externally when drilling ferrous metals to extend tool life. Inspect the drill point for wear or chipping before each use and regrind or replace as needed to maintain cut quality.
