The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999956 is a reduced shank twist drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in ferrous metals, aluminum, copper, titanium, and a range of other materials. It features a 19/32 inch (0.5938 inch decimal) cutting diameter paired with a 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank, allowing it to be chucked in standard 1/2 inch drill chucks even at larger bit diameters. The 118 degree standard point angle suits a broad range of materials and is the industry-standard geometry for general shop and field work. Overall length is 6 inches with a 3 inch flute length, giving adequate depth capacity for most through-hole and blind-hole applications.
This bit is suited for use in stationary drill presses, magnetic base drills, and hand-held power drills equipped with a 1/2 inch chuck. The reduced shank design makes it practical for tradespeople and machinists who need larger diameter holes without upgrading to a larger chuck. Typical applications include metalwork in mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical trades where holes in steel plate, sheet metal, aluminum framing, copper pipe flanges, and structural members are required. The right-hand spiral flute geometry promotes smooth chip evacuation in both ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
Designed as a general-purpose reduced shank drill bit compatible with any 1/2 inch keyed or keyless drill chuck. Suitable for drilling ferrous metals, aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, synthetic, and cermet materials per Series R56 specifications.
Installation of this bit is performed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and trade professionals using standard drill presses or portable power drills with a 1/2 inch chuck. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify concentricity before drilling. Always wear appropriate eye protection and secure the workpiece before operation. Coolant is not required for this bit, but cutting fluid may be applied to extend tool life when drilling harder ferrous materials.
