The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999941 is a reduced shank twist drill bit designed for general-purpose hole making in a wide range of materials. The bit measures 1-9/64 inches (1.1406 inches decimal) in diameter with a 1/2-inch straight-cylindrical reduced shank, allowing it to be chucked in standard 1/2-inch drill chucks despite the larger cutting diameter. Constructed from high speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, it features a 118-degree standard point angle and right-hand spiral flutes for efficient chip evacuation. Overall length is 6 inches with a 3-inch flute length, yielding a maximum drilling depth of 3 inches. This is a Series R56 bit suitable for production and maintenance drilling operations.
This drill bit is appropriate for use in ferrous metals, aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, synthetic materials, and cermet. The reduced shank design makes it practical for shops and tradespeople who need to drill oversize holes using existing 1/2-inch capacity chucks without requiring a larger drill press or hammer drill. Typical applications include HVAC duct fabrication, pipe penetrations, electrical rough-in work, and general metalworking tasks where a clean, accurate hole in the 1-1/8-inch-plus range is required. No coolant is required, making it straightforward to use in field and shop environments alike.
Designed as a general-purpose reduced shank drill bit compatible with any 1/2-inch capacity keyed or keyless chuck. Meets ANSI standards for twist drill geometry and dimensional tolerances.
Install and remove this bit only with the drill or drill press fully powered off and the chuck key removed from the chuck. Secure the reduced shank firmly in the chuck jaws before drilling to prevent slippage under load. Use appropriate work-holding such as a vise or clamps when drilling metal — never hand-hold workpieces. For best results in production drilling, back the workpiece to reduce burring on breakthrough.
