The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999923 is a reduced shank twist drill bit designed for general-purpose hole-making in ferrous metals and a wide range of secondary materials. It carries a 1-7/16 inch (1.4375 inch) cutting diameter paired with a 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank, allowing it to run in standard 1/2 inch drill chucks without requiring a larger capacity spindle. The drill is manufactured from high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish and features a 118-degree standard point angle suited to everyday production and maintenance drilling tasks. Licensed trades and industrial machinists rely on this Series R56 bit for reliable performance across metal fabrication, mechanical contracting, and site work applications.
This bit is suited to drilling ferrous metals as its primary workpiece material. Secondary materials include aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, and various synthetic materials. The 6 inch overall length and 3 inch flute length provide sufficient depth of cut for most structural and plate applications encountered in HVAC, plumbing, and electrical rough-in work where larger pilot or clearance holes are required. The right-hand spiral flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation during through-hole and blind-hole operations.
Designed as an OEM-style general-purpose drill bit compatible with any 1/2 inch keyed or keyless drill chuck on corded drills, drill presses, and magnetic base drills. Conforms to ANSI standards for reduced shank drill geometry.
Secure the 1/2 inch shank firmly in the chuck before operation and verify the drill press or hand drill is rated for the cutting diameter being used. Use appropriate work-holding fixtures to prevent workpiece movement during drilling. Power down and de-energize or lock out any drill press before changing bits per standard OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Coolant is not required for this bit per manufacturer specifications, but feed rate and speed should be adjusted to the hardness of the workpiece material to preserve cutting edge life.
