The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999892 is a high speed steel extra length drill bit designed for deep-hole drilling applications where standard-length bits cannot reach. The 1/4 inch diameter bit features an 18 inch overall length and a 13 inch flute length, providing extended reach in deep bores, long through-holes, and hard-to-access workpieces. The 118 degree standard point angle and web-thinned tip reduce thrust during entry and improve centering on start. A bright, uncoated finish makes this a general purpose tool suited to a wide range of metalworking and fabrication tasks. Licensed tradespeople and machining professionals are the primary users of this bit.
This extra length bit is built for drilling aluminum, magnesium, copper, nickel, titanium, synthetic materials, stainless steel, malleable iron, nickel alloy, high strength bronze, hardened steel, reinforced plastics, and steel. It is a strong fit for HVAC duct fabrication, electrical rough-in requiring deep-reach boring through structural members, plumbing rough-in, and general sheet metal or fabrication shop use where standard 6 inch jobber bits are too short. The straight cylindrical shank accepts standard drill chucks without adapters.
Designed as an OEM-style general purpose extra length drill bit compatible with any standard drill chuck accepting a 1/4 inch straight cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials include aluminum, magnesium, copper, nickel, titanium, and synthetic materials; secondary materials include stainless steel, hardened steel, high strength bronze, malleable iron, nickel alloy, magnesium alloy, reinforced plastics, and steel.
Install in a drill press, handheld power drill, or right-angle drill with a chuck rated for 1/4 inch shanks. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify concentricity before running at speed. When drilling deep holes, retract the bit periodically to clear chips and prevent heat buildup that can reduce tool life. Use cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling steel and other ferrous materials.
