The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999823 is a high-speed steel extra length drill bit designed for deep-hole drilling applications where standard-length bits cannot reach. It measures 0.3438 inches in diameter with a 118-degree standard point angle and a total overall length of 15 inches, providing extended reach without sacrificing rigidity. The spiral flute geometry is right-hand cutting with a regular helix and a web-thinned, tapered web configuration that reduces thrust and improves chip evacuation. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance professionals working in metal fabrication or industrial maintenance are the primary installers of this bit.
This bit is suited for drilling through aluminum, magnesium, copper, nickel, synthetic materials, and titanium as primary workpiece materials. It also performs in secondary applications involving stainless steel, hardened steel, nickel alloys, malleable iron, high-strength bronze, magnesium alloy, reinforced plastics, and general steel. The 11-inch flute length and 15-inch overall length make it well-matched for deep-cavity work in production or maintenance settings where standard jobber-length bits are insufficient. The bright uncoated finish is typical for general-purpose drilling where cutting fluid or coolant is applied externally.
Designed as a general-purpose extra length drill bit conforming to ANSI standards, suitable for use in standard drill chucks and compatible drill presses, CNC machines, or hand-held drilling equipment accepting a 0.3438-inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in a compatible chuck before operation and verify there is no runout before beginning the cut. Power down and lock out the machine before changing or inspecting the bit. Apply cutting fluid or coolant externally when drilling ferrous or hard materials to extend tool life and control heat buildup. Inspect the web and cutting edges for wear before each use, as extended-length bits are more susceptible to deflection if the point becomes dull.
