The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999808 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for production drilling in metals. It is made from high-speed steel with a cobalt content and finished with a bronze oxide coating, which improves heat resistance during high-speed cutting. The bit measures 2.875 inches overall length with a 135-degree split-point tip that reduces walking on hard surfaces and requires no center punch. This is a No. 29 wire-gauge size, equivalent to 0.1360 inches diameter, with a straight cylindrical shank and a two-flute regular spiral configuration. Machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance technicians install this bit in drill presses, CNC machines, and hand drills.
This drill bit is suited for drilling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. The cobalt-enhanced HSS construction and oxide finish make it a general-purpose choice for production environments where heat buildup is a concern. The 7xD flute-to-diameter ratio provides adequate chip clearance for moderate-depth holes. The web-thinned, tapered web reduces thrust and improves penetration in harder materials. Typical applications include tapping pilot holes, clearance holes, and through-holes in fabrication and maintenance settings. Series R88CO-R89CO. Meets NAS 907 specification.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or stock drill bit for use in standard 3-jaw drill chucks accepting 0.1360-inch straight shank tooling; suitable for drill presses, CNC drilling machines, and portable hand drills used in metalworking applications.
Install and remove drill bits only with the drill press or machine powered off and the chuck fully secured. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling stainless steel, superalloys, or titanium to extend bit life and reduce work hardening. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling to prevent rotation. Follow applicable OSHA machine-guarding and eye-protection requirements for drilling operations.
