The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999764 is a taper length, straight-shank drill bit designed for general-purpose metal drilling across a wide range of workpiece materials. Manufactured from high speed steel with a bright/uncoated finish, it features a 118-degree standard point angle and a right-hand spiral flute with a regular helix. The bit measures 0.0469 inches (3/64 inch) in diameter with a 1.125-inch flute length and an overall length of 2.25 inches. A tapered web configuration and web-thinned point reduce thrust and improve chip clearance at entry. This bit is sold individually and is part of Precision Twist Drill Series R51, conforming to ANSI standards.
This drill bit is suited for use in production and maintenance drilling environments where a taper-length geometry provides additional reach beyond a jobber-length bit without sacrificing rigidity. Compatible material applications include alloy steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, cermet, copper, graphite, hardened steel, high strength bronze, magnesium, magnesium alloy, malleable iron, nickel, nickel alloy, reinforced plastic materials, and stainless steel. It is a practical choice for machinists, maintenance technicians, pipefitters, and plumbers working in shop or field conditions where precise, small-diameter through-holes are required.
Designed as an OEM-style general-purpose taper length drill bit for use in standard three-jaw drill chucks and collets accepting a 0.0469-inch straight shank. Compatible material applications include alloy steel, aluminum, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, copper, graphite, hardened steel, magnesium, nickel alloys, stainless steel, and reinforced plastics as specified by the manufacturer.
Install in a compatible drill chuck or collet, ensuring the shank is fully seated and secured before operation. Confirm the workpiece is clamped or fixtured appropriately to prevent movement during drilling. Apply cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling hardened or stainless steel to extend bit life, as this bit does not include a coolant-through channel. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use, and replace when point geometry degrades to maintain hole quality and prevent breakage at this small diameter.
