The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999743 is a taper length, straight-shank drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling across a wide range of materials. Manufactured from high speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, it carries a standard 118-degree point angle and a web-thinned, tapered web configuration for improved chip evacuation and reduced thrust at entry. The bit measures 0.1470 inches in diameter (wire size #26), with a 3-inch spiral flute length and an overall length of 5-3/8 inches. It cuts in a right-hand direction and is suited for use by machinists, maintenance technicians, and trade professionals working in fabrication or field service environments.
This Series R52 drill bit is built for general-purpose material removal in both shop and field applications. It is rated for use in alloy steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, cermet, copper, graphite, hardened steel, high strength bronze, magnesium, magnesium alloy, malleable iron, nickel, nickel alloy, reinforced plastic materials, and stainless steel. The 6xD flute-to-diameter ratio and regular spiral type make it a practical choice for through-hole and depth-sensitive drilling tasks where a standard jobber length bit would be too short.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use taper length drill bit for any standard drill chuck accepting a 0.1470-inch straight shank; compatible with benchtop drill presses, hand drills, and CNC drilling setups that accept ANSI-compliant straight-shank tooling.
Install in a properly sized drill chuck and tighten securely before operation. Ensure the workpiece is clamped or fixtured to prevent movement during drilling. For hardened steel or stainless steel applications, use cutting fluid to extend tool life and maintain point geometry. Regrinding is possible on high speed steel bits — maintain the original 118-degree point angle and web thinning when resharpening.
