The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999738 is a cobalt-grade, jobber-length drill bit designed for demanding metal-drilling applications. Built from high-speed steel with a cobalt composition and finished with a bronze oxide coating, this bit delivers reliable performance in hard and abrasive materials. It features a 135-degree split-point tip that reduces walking on entry and a regular spiral flute for efficient chip evacuation. The 3/16 inch diameter, straight-cylindrical shank and two-flute design make it a practical choice for maintenance technicians, machinists, and trade professionals working in fabrication or field service environments.
This bit is suited for drilling into steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium — covering workpiece material codes P, M, K, N, and S. The jobber-length format, with an overall length of 3.5 inches and a flute length of 1.125 inches, fits standard three-jaw drill chucks and handles the majority of through-hole and blind-hole tasks encountered in HVAC, mechanical, and plumbing rough-in work. It meets NAS 907 specification requirements and is web-thinned at the tip for reduced thrust when cutting harder stock.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit compatible with standard three-jaw drill chucks accepting a 3/16 inch straight-cylindrical shank, suitable for benchtop drill presses, hand drills, and magnetic-base drills used in trade and production applications.
Install in a properly rated drill press or hand drill with the chuck tightened securely before operation. Wear appropriate eye protection and secure the workpiece before drilling. Apply cutting fluid when drilling stainless steel, superalloys, or titanium to reduce heat buildup and extend bit life. Inspect the cutting edge for wear before each use and replace when the tip shows chipping or the bit requires excessive feed pressure to advance.
