The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999730 is a taper length straight-shank drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in a wide range of materials. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright/uncoated finish, it measures 0.1570 inches in diameter and features a 118-degree standard point angle with web thinning for improved penetration and reduced thrust. The spiral flute geometry and 6xD flute-to-diameter ratio make it well suited for deeper holes where a jobber-length bit would be limiting. Machinists, maintenance technicians, and fabricators reach for this Series R52 bit when they need reliable performance across metal, plastic, and non-ferrous materials.
This bit fits standard drill chucks and CNC machining centers that accept straight-shank tooling at 0.1570 inches shank diameter. It is a wire gauge #22 size, a common specification in light fabrication, electrical enclosure work, HVAC component drilling, and general metalworking. The 5-3/4 inch overall length and 3-3/8 inch flute length give it reach for through-hole applications in thicker stock where standard jobber bits fall short. Right-hand cut orientation is compatible with all conventional drill presses, hand drills, and CNC spindles.
Designed as an OEM-style general-purpose replacement or stock drill bit for use in standard 3-jaw drill chucks and collet systems accepting a 0.1570-inch straight shank. Compatible material applications listed by the manufacturer include alloy steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, copper, graphite, hardened steel, high strength bronze, magnesium, magnesium alloy, malleable iron, nickel, nickel alloy, reinforced plastic materials, stainless steel, and cermet.
Install into a properly sized drill chuck or collet and tighten securely before operation. Power down and lock out the drill press or machining center before changing bits. Follow applicable ANSI safety standards for rotating cutting tools, including the use of appropriate eye protection and workpiece clamping. Do not exceed the recommended feed rate or spindle speed for the workpiece material to avoid premature bit wear or breakage.
