The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999691 is a taper length, straight-shank drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling across a wide range of materials. Manufactured from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, it measures 0.1890 inches in diameter and carries a standard 118-degree point angle. The overall length is 6 inches, with a spiral flute length of 3.625 inches, providing extra reach compared to jobber-length bits. The web-thinned, tapered web configuration reduces thrust at the cutting edge, making starts cleaner and extending tool life in production environments. This bit is sized to wire gauge #12 and belongs to the Series R52 lineup.
This drill bit is suited for use in machine shop, maintenance, and field applications where standard jobber bits fall short on reach. It handles a broad spectrum of materials including carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, copper, magnesium, nickel alloys, reinforced plastics, and graphite. Right-hand cut with a regular spiral makes it compatible with conventional drill presses, lathes, and hand-held power tools. Licensed HVAC, plumbing, and electrical tradespeople commonly use taper length bits when drilling through structural members, panels, or assemblies where bit length is a limiting factor.
Designed as an OEM-style general-purpose taper length drill bit; compatible with any standard drill chuck accepting a 0.1890-inch straight shank. Meets ANSI standards. Confirmed material applications include alloy steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, cermet, copper, graphite, hardened steel, high strength bronze, magnesium, magnesium alloy, malleable iron, nickel, nickel alloy, reinforced plastic materials, and stainless steel.
Install in a properly sized drill chuck and verify the shank is fully seated and tightened before operation. Power down and de-energize any equipment being drilled into before beginning work; follow applicable OSHA and NEC guidelines when drilling near electrical systems. Use cutting fluid or coolant when drilling ferrous metals to extend bit life, unless the workpiece setup prohibits it. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace if chipping or dullness is evident.
