The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999675 is a reduced shank drill bit designed for drilling precise, clean holes in ferrous metals and a range of secondary materials. It features a 31/32-inch (0.9688 inch) cutting diameter paired with a 1/2-inch Weldon shank, allowing it to fit standard 1/2-inch chucks and drill presses without requiring a large-shank spindle. Constructed from high speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, the bit operates on the Series R57 platform with a standard 118-degree point angle suited for general-purpose drilling. The 3-flute Weldon shank design prevents slippage under torque, making it a reliable choice for production and maintenance drilling operations.
This bit is well suited for metalworking tradespeople, HVAC fabricators, pipefitters, and maintenance technicians who need to bore near-1-inch holes using 1/2-inch chuck equipment. The reduced shank configuration makes it practical for handheld and benchtop drill presses that cannot accommodate a full 31/32-inch shank. Primary workpiece materials include ferrous metals. Secondary materials include aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, synthetic materials, and titanium. The right-hand spiral flute with regular helix geometry provides consistent chip evacuation across these materials without coolant.
Designed for use with 1/2-inch capacity drill chucks and drilling equipment. Suitable for drilling ferrous metal, aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, synthetic, and titanium workpiece materials. Conforms to ANSI standards per Series R57 specifications.
Installation and use of this drill bit should be performed by qualified machinists, fabricators, or maintenance technicians familiar with rotating cutting tools. Secure the Weldon shank fully in the drill chuck and tighten set screws against the flats before operating to prevent slippage. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use, and replace the bit if the point is damaged. Ensure the workpiece is firmly clamped before drilling to prevent movement and maintain hole accuracy.
