The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999628 is a reduced shank twist drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal fabrication, mechanical, and trade service applications. It features a 5/8 inch cutting diameter with a 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank, allowing it to seat in standard half-inch chucks while delivering a larger bore diameter. The bit is manufactured from high speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish and ground to a 118-degree standard point angle for reliable starting and consistent chip clearance on a wide range of materials. Licensed trades and general machinists rely on this geometry for everyday hole-making in ferrous metals and nonferrous stock.
This bit suits residential and commercial trade applications where a larger cutting diameter is needed but chuck capacity is limited to 1/2 inch. The Series R56 reduced shank design handles ferrous metals as its primary workpiece material, with secondary suitability for aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, synthetic materials, and cermet. It fits standard drill presses, hand drills, and magnetic base drills equipped with a 1/2 inch chuck. The 3-inch flute length accommodates drilling depths up to 3 inches, making it appropriate for structural steel, pipe flanges, electrical enclosures, and mechanical assemblies encountered in HVAC, plumbing, and electrical trade work.
Designed as a general-purpose replacement or stock drill bit compatible with any 1/2 inch keyed or keyless chuck. Verified workpiece materials include ferrous metal, aluminum, cermet, copper, magnesium, nickel, synthetic materials, and titanium per manufacturer specification.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified tradesperson familiar with drilling equipment and metal-working safety practices. Always secure the workpiece firmly before drilling and ensure the reduced shank is fully seated and tightened in the chuck before operation. Power down and de-energize any drilling equipment before bit changes. Wear appropriate eye and hand protection in compliance with applicable shop safety standards.
