The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999613 is a taper length straight-shank drill bit designed for precision drilling in a wide range of materials. Ground from high speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, this bit features a 118-degree standard point angle and a right-hand spiral flute for efficient chip evacuation. The tapered web configuration and web-thinned point reduce thrust and improve centering at entry. At 0.0160 inches in diameter (Wire Size 78) with a 5/16-inch flute length and 1-1/2-inch overall length, it is sized for fine-tolerance work where bit deflection and hole quality matter.
This Series R52 drill bit is suited for general-purpose metalworking and light fabrication tasks across residential, commercial, and industrial settings. It is commonly used by machinists, HVAC technicians, plumbers, electricians, and maintenance professionals who need reliable small-diameter drilling. Compatible material applications include alloy steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, cermet, copper, graphite, hardened steel, high strength bronze, magnesium, magnesium alloy, malleable iron, nickel, nickel alloy, reinforced plastic materials, and stainless steel.
Designed as a general-purpose taper length drill bit compatible with standard straight-shank drill chucks and suitable for drilling alloy steel, aluminum, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, copper, stainless steel, and reinforced plastic materials as noted in the Series R52 product specifications.
Installation of small-diameter drill bits should be performed by a qualified technician or machinist using a properly sized chuck rated for straight-shank bits. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation to prevent slippage or bit breakage. At 0.0160 inches in diameter, this bit is fragile under side load or excessive feed pressure — use low feed rates and appropriate cutting fluid where the material application calls for it. Power down and de-energize all equipment before changing bits.
