The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999553 is a taper length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling across a wide range of materials. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright/uncoated finish, it features a 0.2460-inch diameter straight shank and a standard 118-degree split point. The spiral flute design and web-thinned, tapered web configuration promote efficient chip evacuation and reduce entry thrust. At 6.125 inches overall length with a 3.75-inch flute, this bit offers the extended reach of a taper length format while maintaining rigidity suited to production and maintenance drilling tasks. It weighs approximately 0.04 pounds.
This drill bit is suited for use in metalworking, fabrication, and maintenance applications where a longer flute length is required to reach deeper hole depths. It is compatible with standard drill chucks accepting a 0.2460-inch straight shank. Designated as a Letter D drill, it is commonly used by machinists, pipefitters, and industrial maintenance technicians working with metals and select non-metallic materials. The right-hand spiral flute and standard point geometry make it a reliable general-purpose option for bench drill presses, hand drills, and CNC drilling operations.
Rated for drilling in alloy steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, cermet, copper, graphite, hardened steel, high strength bronze, magnesium, magnesium alloy, malleable iron, nickel, nickel alloy, reinforced plastic materials, and stainless steel. Conforms to ANSI standards. Part of the PRECISION TWIST DRILL Series R55 taper length line.
Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a compatible drill press, hand drill, or CNC machine with a standard chuck sized for a 0.2460-inch shank. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling and apply appropriate cutting fluid when working with ferrous metals or stainless steel. Ensure the drill press or machine is powered down and secured before changing bits. Do not exceed the rated speed range for the material being drilled.
