The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999550 is a reduced shank twist drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in ferrous metals and a range of secondary materials. It features a 47/64 inch (0.7344 inch decimal) cutting diameter paired with a 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank, allowing it to be chucked in standard 1/2 inch drill chucks while drilling oversized holes. The 118-degree standard point angle provides a balanced entry geometry suited to flat and curved workpiece surfaces. Manufactured from high speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, this bit delivers reliable cutting performance across a broad range of shop and field applications. It is appropriate for machinists, pipefitters, plumbers, and electricians who require a larger-diameter hole than their chuck capacity would otherwise allow.
This drill bit is suited for use in drill presses, magnetic base drills, and handheld electric drills equipped with a 1/2 inch chuck. Primary workpiece material is ferrous metal. Secondary workpiece materials include aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, synthetic materials, and cermet. The Series R56 design follows ANSI standards, making it a compatible replacement in general maintenance, fabrication, and mechanical trade applications wherever a reduced shank configuration is required. The 3 inch flute length supports a maximum drilling depth of 3 inches.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use reduced shank drill bit compatible with any 1/2 inch chuck drill press, magnetic base drill, or handheld drill. Suitable for ferrous metal, aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, synthetic materials, and cermet workpieces per Series R56 design parameters.
Installation is performed by machinists, electricians, plumbers, and mechanical tradespeople using standard 1/2 inch drill chucks. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify concentricity before drilling. Ensure workpiece is clamped or fixtured before starting the cut — never hand-hold thin or small stock. No coolant is specified for this bit; consult material manufacturer recommendations if drilling heat-sensitive alloys.
